If you're craving something that's just over-the-top comfort food, look no further. This White Lasagna recipe is everything you need and more. Layers and layers of pasta, cheese, sausage, spinach and of course, a rich and creamy white sauce. Instead of a plain white sauce, we used Alfredo, which is much richer and more flavorful. It's a simple shortcut that really brings everything together. Baked until hot and bubbling with melted cheese on top, it's comfort in a baking dish.
Step 1
Cook and drain the noodles according to the package directions. While the noodles are cooking, heat the oven to 400°F.
Step 2
Heat the oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sausage and onion cook until the sausage is well browned, stirring often to separate meat. Pour off any fat. Stir in the spinach and cook until wilted. Season with salt and pepper.
Step 3
Mix the ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, lemon zest (if using) and the garlic powder in a bowl.
Step 4
Spread 2 tablespoons sauce in the bottom of an 11x8x2-inch baking dish. Layer with 3 cooked noodles, 1/2 cup ricotta mixture, 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, 3/4 cup sausage mixture and 1/3 cup sauce. Repeat two times (you'll have three layers). Layer with the remaining noodles, ricotta mixture, sausage mixture and sauce. Sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella cheese. Cover the baking dish with foil.
Step 5
Bake for 30 minutes. Uncover the baking dish. Bake for another 15 minutes or until hot and bubbling. Let stand for 15 minutes before serving. Top with additional Parmesan cheese and fresh basil, if desired.
