Step 1
Season the beef with salt and pepper. Thoroughly mix the beef, 2 tablespoons picante sauce, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning and garlic in a large bowl. Shape the beef mixture into 10 meatballs.

Heat a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add the meatballs and cook for 6 minutes or until well browned. Add the remaining picante sauce and heat to a boil. Reduce the heat and cook for 10 minutes or until the meatballs are done. Stir in the sugar and cook for 5 minutes. Season to taste.
Step 3
Heat the broiler. Place the rolls onto a baking sheet. Divide the meatballs and sauce among the rolls. Sprinkle with the mozzarella cheese. Broil for 2 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Cut each sandwich in half. Top with the avocado and the cilantro, if desired, before serving.
