Who says you can’t have the best of both worlds? Meet our Zesty Taco Sloppy Joes - a fast and tasty weeknight dish inspired by two family favorites. The combination of Campbell’s® Condensed Tomato Soup and Pace® Chunky Salsa (choose your heat level!) gives this recipe a depth of flavor that you just can’t get from a taco seasoning packet. The balance of sweet, savory and spicy is perfect for simmering the beef.  All you need is 5 ingredients and 20 minutes to make the filling for these sandwiches; we like it on buns with shredded Cheddar, but you can serve the filling with whatever you have on hand - over rice, in taco shells, even with tortilla chips for dipping.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can (10 3/4 ounces) Campbell’s® Condensed Tomato Soup
  • 1 cup Pace® Chunky Salsa (choose your favorite heat level!)
  • 8 Pepperidge Farm® Sesame Topped Hamburger Buns or your choice of brioche buns
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Tips

    • Serving Suggestion: Continue the Tex-Mex theme and try serving this dish with a tomato and avocado salad on the side.
    • Serving Suggestion: Don’t have burger buns on hand? Try the filling wrapped in a soft flour or corn tortilla, in a crispy taco shell, over rice, or with tortilla chips for scooping.
    • Serving Suggestion: Customize your Zesty Taco Sloppy Joe with Tex-Mex-inspired toppings. Try sliced avocado, diced tomato, sliced radishes or jicama, pickled jalapeños, or a squeeze of lime.
  • Step 1

Season the beef with salt and pepper.  Cook the beef in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat until well browned, stirring often to separate meat.  Pour off any fat.

  • Step 2

Stir the soup and salsa in the skillet and cook until hot.  Season to taste.  Spoon the beef mixture on the buns.  Top with the cheese.  Place the open sandwiches under the broiler to melt and slightly brown the cheese, if desired.
